Exterior cost guides for Sacramento-area cities.

Every guide is written for one city's housing, permit office, and climate, with published figures attributed to their source. Pick the service, then the city.

Guides by service

These guides answer one question per page: what a specific exterior job costs in a specific Sacramento-area city, and why two bids for the same house come in far apart. There are 72 of them, one for each of six services in 12 cities, from the prewar wood of central Sacramento to the 2000s stucco of Elk Grove and El Dorado Hills. Each one names the permit office, the climate zone, and the housing eras that shape the work in that city, then funnels to the city’s own service page.

Every number is a published figure from a named source, checked on the guide’s review date and labeled with the year it was published. Ranges from national cost aggregators, local contractor guides, and the JLC Cost vs. Value study are shown side by side rather than averaged, because each describes a different scope. Housing-age percentages come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year estimates, climate zones from the California Energy Commission, and lead-safe rules from the U.S. EPA. None of the figures is a 916 Exteriors price; a written estimate for your house replaces all of them, and the estimate comparison guide explains how to read one.

Siding

Replacement ranges by material (vinyl, fiber cement, wood) from homeyou, Handoff, and local installer guides, set against the JLC Cost vs. Value study, with the wall-area math and neighborhood adders that move a bid.
